Construction is more than just bricks and mortar; it represents grit and resilience. The building industry is relentless, often physically demanding, with competing priorities. As we push hard to meet project deadlines, safety on site becomes vital and remaining alert and adhering to protocols is essential.
Additionally, job security is a concern, as the unpredictable nature of our industry can create anxiety about the future.
Prioritising our team’s well being, particularly with the mid-year fast approaching is vital. It’s essential for us to recognise the significant stressors facing our employees, and to proactively put measures in place to minimise them before burnout takes hold.
Creating a workplace culture that prioritises wellness is not just beneficial—it’s essential. It creates an environment where employees feel supported, valued and well equipped to meet the demands of their jobs. It can also lead to improved productivity, higher morale and a more resilient workforce.
Strategies to Prevent Burnout and Promote Wellbeing:
- Promote a healthy work-life balance
- Create a supportive environment with open communication
- Offer professional development opportunities
- Recognise and reward hard work
- Manage workloads in an equal manner
- Encourage team-building activities
- Foster healthy habits
- Provide access to mental health support
- Enhance safety measures
Waiting until burnout becomes a full-blown issue can have serious repercussions.
Signs of Burnout:
- Decreased enthusiasm
- Increased cynicism
- Decline in performance, such as missed deadlines or reduced work quality
- Frequent absences or tardiness
- Emotional or physical symptoms
Preventing work burnout is essential for maintaining a healthy and productive workforce. By implementing strategies that promote work-life balance and fostering open communication, we can create an environment where employees feel valued and motivated, ultimately ensuring the long-term success of our business.
As for myself, prioritising self care, setting boundaries and keeping effective time management skills is crucial to combatting burnout when the physical and mental demands of my job become overwhelming. As a leader, my actions set the tone for my team. Leading by example, with empathy and understanding, is critical.

HIGH RISK WORK
GLASS REPLACEMENT
Load 28 executed a high-risk glass replacement lift at AFS Tower 1 over the weekend by utilising external Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) operations and specialised glass handling equipment. Due to the sign’s location, glass was transferred mid-air for the BMU to lower it safely to the ground.
Load 28 collaborated effectively with the Built team to conduct a high-risk workshop, ensuring that all crew members understood the work sequence and safety measures prior to conducting the lift., exemplifying Load 28’s expertise in managing high-risk operations with precision and professionalism.
CONSTRUCTION HOISTS & LOADING DECKS
In the past month, the Construction Hoist team has been actively engaged in installing, jumping, and dismantling hoists. We recently deployed our Alimak 31/39, equipped with a large C door to 80 King William Street for Pelligra. This hoist is crucial for their fitout project.
